Learn how knowledge is made
Research & Education
Connect scientific reading with teaching and inquiry: ask a question, examine a method and turn the result into an explanation appropriate to your audience.
Scope & availability
This guide does not provide enrollment, institutional approval, supervised research placement or accredited assessment.
Start with an investigable question
Separate a broad topic from a question that can be addressed with evidence. Identify the system or population, the comparison and what would be measured or explained.
A learning activity may use an existing dataset or published experiment rather than produce original findings. State that distinction so learners do not overclaim the novelty of their work.
Teach the method as well as the result
Discuss how data were collected, what assumptions were made and which alternatives the design can or cannot exclude. A result without its method can encourage memorization rather than understanding.
Use an age-appropriate explanation, but keep essential caveats. Simplifying language should not change the meaning of the claim.
Translate a paper into a learning activity
Choose one figure, comparison or argument. Ask learners to describe it, explain the evidence and identify a limitation. Separate what the paper reports from the class’s interpretation.
Check reuse permissions for figures and data. Any activity involving people, animals, hazardous materials or sensitive records requires the relevant approvals and supervision.
Evaluate the explanation and reflect
Look for a defensible claim, appropriate evidence and recognition of uncertainty. Feedback should identify the reasoning that needs work, not merely whether a conclusion matches the instructor’s preference.
Record the source and the learner’s own contribution. The live lookup below can support reading, but it does not validate a lesson or confer a credential.

Retrieve source records now
Search Europe PMC’s biomedical and life-science literature on demand. This is a live source lookup, not a SCIENCIBLE editorial endorsement or a search across all sciences. Identical queries share a five-minute cache. No sample records are substituted on failure.
