Guidance with a clear purpose
Mentor Network
Prepare for a useful mentoring relationship by defining a goal, the expertise needed and realistic expectations on both sides.
Scope & availability
Automated matching, booked office hours and a verified mentor directory are not available yet.
Coming soon. Mentor matching and booking are being developed and will be deployed soon. The guidance here does not confirm anyone’s availability as a mentor.
Define a mentoring goal
Choose a question that benefits from someone else’s experience: a research method, a portfolio decision, a learning route or a professional transition. Explain what you have already tried and where you need perspective.
Mentoring is different from formal supervision, therapy, professional advice or doing a task on your behalf.
Look for relevant experience, not only status
A helpful mentor needs experience applicable to your goal and enough context to understand the constraints. A prestigious title alone does not establish a good fit.
When proposing a relationship, identify relevant public work, disclose conflicts and avoid implying that someone has agreed to participate before they have.
Agree scope and boundaries
Discuss the topic, format, time commitment, privacy and what each person can reasonably offer. Define a small outcome and a way to review whether the conversation helped.
For minors, involve an appropriate adult or institution and establish safeguarding arrangements. Do not arrange unsupervised contact through an unverified profile.
Prepare a mentoring inquiry
Summarize the goal, stage of learning, useful expertise and preferred format. Share a short public work sample where relevant, not private records.
Use Contact to express interest while matching develops. An inquiry does not create a booking, appointment or guaranteed introduction.
